Easy Homemade Oat Milk

What is Oat Milk?

Have you ever tasted oat milk recently? It seems to be popping up everywhere lately. You can put it in your coffee at Starbucks, buy it in a carton at the supermarket, or even get a pint of oat milk ice cream!

Oat milk is a popular substitute for cow’s milk prepared from oats, water, and occasionally a few other components. Its creamy texture has made it popular among latte-making baristas, while its nutritious profile has won its fans and landed it a position in supermarket nondairy sections.

Is Oat Milk Healthy?

Oat milk is an excellent milk alternative if you’re attempting to lose a few pounds because it’s low in calories (130 per cup), fat, and sugar but high in protein and fibre. It’s the perfect alternative for anyone who is lactose intolerant, allergic to nuts, or concerned about hormone usage in dairy milk.

According to a new study, eating oats can help individuals with type 2 diabetes regulate their blood sugar levels.

Perparing

Because the oats don’t need to be soaked ahead of time, it just takes a few minutes to prepare.

How to Make Homemade Oat Milk:

It’s so simple to make delicious oat milk! Here’s the recipe:

  1. In a strong blender, combine the oats and cold water and mix for 30 seconds, or until the water is creamy and white. Be careful not to over-blend for the finest texture!
  2. After that, pour the oat milk through a fine mesh strainer over a big mixing bowl. Some liquid may collect at the strainer’s bottom. That is fine as this liquid, as well as any oat pulp beneath it, should be discarded. If you try to press the pulp through the strainer to get more liquid through, the milk can become slimy and gritty.
  3. Strain the liquid twice for extra-smooth oat milk, discarding the leftover pulp each time. Although this step is optional, it will result in the smoothest final texture.
  4. When you want to use it, don’t shake it like most dairy-free milks. Instead, pour the creamy milk off the top and let any remaining oat pulp settle at the bottom of the container. Store milk in fridge and may last up to 7 days.

Cooking Tips

Another technique to keep the oat milk from separating is to pour it into the cup first. After you’ve added the oat milk, slowly pour in the amount of hot coffee you want. This assists in preventing undesired separation by allowing the milk to be tempered and gradually brought up to the temperature of the coffee.

To modify the texture, you may add a little amount of neutral-flavoured oil, however the oil would separate from the oat milk. You may also thicken a part of the milk by boiling it before combining it with the rest.
